Redesign of Crane Society; moving the Amlit pages

The Crane Society site has been redesigned along the lines of the other two author societies. Also, I've been putting the redirect scripts in the pages at Gonzaga. This entails many hours of work but not a lot of difference to the site visitor.

Redesign of Howells Society Site

I've continued to work on the Wharton Society site and have also redone the Howells Society site. Some of the pages still need work, but the Wharton Society has officially been relocated. The new design makes parts of the site that were previously somewhat hidden easier to find--the works of each author, for example, and the resources for students and teachers.

How long did it take? About 12 hours for the initial redesign of the Wharton Society site and about 8 for the Howells Society. I've spent 12 more hours a day on this after completing both sites by last Friday. The American lit site, too, is being updated and moved.

The new typeface (font?) is small but clear, so I hope that everyone can read it. I'm holding off on redoing the Crane Society site until I get feedback from people about these sites.

Redesign of Wharton Society Site

I spent all day redesigning and updating the Edith Wharton Society site. The old frames-based setup was removed, and I set up a new navigation bar with drop-down capabilities and much more logical categories (thanks, Nick Rigby and A List Apart, for the tutorial!).

This new design seems to work in IE and Firefox. The type size is smaller, but it looks much cleaner than the old design--hope people will like it.

In addition to the redesign, I updated a lot of links, including those leading to the Making of America project page images of Wharton's works.

Site is changing servers

Over the next few weeks, I'll be moving all the sites from http://www.gonzaga.edu/faculty/campbell/index.html to http://www.wsu.edu/~campbelld/index.html. I'll be using automatic redirecting to send visitors automatically to the new page, so I hope the transition will be painless.

All of the American literature pages will be going into one directory (http://www.wsu.edu/~campbelld/amlit), so that should solve the problems of updating; I've sometimes had author pages in three different directories and have occasionally forgotten to update one when I updated the others . The filenames will all stay the same.

The old class sites for English 102 and English 270 will stay on the Gonzaga site, but the Crane Society, Howells Society (http://www.howellssociety.org or http://www.gonzaga.edu/howells) and Wharton Society (http://www.edithwhartonsociety.org or http://www.gonzaga.edu/wharton) will also move.

The reason? I've moved from being an associate professor of English at Gonzaga University to being an associate professor of English at Washington State University.
